There’s good reason that nearly one-half of Minnesota’s courthouses are on the National Register of Historic Places. Victor Gilbertson’s sublime watercolors illuminates the uniqueness of these historic buildings. With accompanying text highlighting the history of these structures, Minnesota Courthouses is an essential resource for everyone interested in Minnesota’s architecture.

Victor C. Gilbertson established an architectural firm in Minneapolis with James B. Hills and Mark N. Hayers principally to design churches, schools, and hospitals. The firm later became Hill, Gilbertson, and Fischer. Since his retirement, Gilbertson has led an active life of volunteer efforts in architectural projects and has kept up a steady flow of watercolor painting, culminating in his books Watercolors of Bridges Over Minnehaha Creek and Minnesota Courthouses. In 2004, Gilbertson was awarded the American Institute of Architects Minnesota Gold Medal.
