Phillip Griffin holds a Ph. D. from Boston University. For many year, he was Chairman of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. From his background in parish ministry, business, and education, he examines the excesses of competition and avarice that are just below the surface of popular religious and secular enterprises. His personal experience with fundamentalist religion and entrepreneurial enterprise give credibility to both his critique and also his appreciation for each. He is able to show how both have grown out of developing American culture, and have both energized and degraded American public life.
