About the Author

Richard Doerfler has been a police officer in Burnsville, Minnesota, since 1979. In 1996, he received his master's degree and was also awarded the medal of valor for the rescue of two small aboys in a construction site cave-in. In 1997, he received both the Minnnesota Chiefs of Police and the Minnesota Officers meritorious service medals for hostage/crisis negotiations.
